Final Evaluation

From doing this course, I have researched many of different artist. Their work has inspired me to think outside of the box and expose myself to different emotions within photography. It has allowed me to know how to present my work with the meanings in the picture anther than in text. Photographers such as Bill Brandt gave me  further interest into looking into body form and shape. He gave me the aspiration to delve further into complex photographs.

I have developed in my technical skills via the camera itself. I have gotten used to holding the camera in different positions and learning the different shutter speeds in order to get movement. Also I have learnt to use different aperatures e.g. A small aperture number will allow more light in.
Furthermore, I have develop new skills in photoshop like learning how to use levels, liquify and filter gallery. On top of this, I have learnt how to manipulate images such as selective colour and 4th plinth.

From the first photograph I have taken you can see a major difference. This is seen in the ways of my actual subject e.g. from just basic flowers with no meaning, to photos of light refections and\or culture representations. The ways in which I have developed come from my mind being opened to more than just a photograph but rather to capturing pure things. I found an interest in photography more as the further I did the course. I think I have also developed as before I stayed in an automatic setting, where as now I use manual settlings.

Dual Tone

Computer and physical experiments are a good way to demonstrate my abilities to experiment. In my computer experiments I see things such as dual tone, Black and White, Repetition.
Black and White
Repetition

I also used experiments with physical experiments. I used things such as glitter, fake blood, ripping paper. Doing these allowed me to change the meanings of pictures of even highlight them. I think they show a different side of photography.

Going further into the future, I think my work is heading in the direction of still life photography. However, In my unit 2, it is heading in the direction of Cultural and conceptual. I think I would like to combine the two together to make conceptual still life photographs.

I think I became more successful towards the end of my photography course. In the beginning the formal elements such as shape and line were not that good, however, I think I became more confident towards the end with things like depth and portraiture. I also think that I succeeded more in my Photoshop skills more than things like studio set up skills.

Overall, If I could redo my unit 1 again, I would. However, I think that it is not bad for a first attempt.

Connecting Essay Five

This is a photo taken by Jeffrey Koons. Koons is an American artist known for working with popular culture subjects. I like the way that the photo is creative and fun, whilst showing something that si very common; dogs and balloons. I thik that his work really influenced me to try out some cultural things, but a more serious culture. However I still wanted to be creative.

Here is a photo i took:

I knew that I had a pink light up Buddha. Knowing this is decided to photograph it in the dark to be able to bring culture in and also have to bright creativeness of the pink glow.
I would have liked to get the photo from a little higher up, however, I really like this one.

Connecting Essay Four

This is a photo of Marilyn Monroe taken by a very famous photographer; Richard Avedon. Avedon was an American fashion and portrait photographer. An obituary published in The New York Times said that "his fashion and portrait photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty and culture for the last half-century"
I really like the way his photos are so effortlessly beautiful. The women looks fresh and fun.

Here is a photo of mine in that style:

I wanted to have a photo that is similar to Avedons, yet, I wanted to differentiate it. Here, I had my model stand up so I could get more of her body in. We are good friends, meaning that I was able to make her laugh and whilst doing so I subtly took the photo. I edited it with a white to grey gradient so that the photo looked more pure and innocent with her smiling.

Connecting Essay Three

This is a photo taken by Rut Blees Luxemburg. Luxemburg is a German photographer. Her technique is to take photographs at night, mostly exploring the urban landscape. She is a Tutor at the Royal College of Art. I really like the way her photos show nothing, yyet so much. Her photos show more of the grimey side of under paths and night life. The way they are edited with a lot of warmth gives it an edgier and dirtier look.

Here is a photo I took in her style:

I took this photo at the back of an abandoned children center. The subject is in the same style as Blees, however, the editing is not. I think I could make it more similar if I were to edit the picture to e warmer and darker. However, I could only take the photo during the day.

Connecting Essay Two

This is a photo taken by Irving Penn. He was an American Photographer who was known for his fashion, portrait and still ice photography. I like the way the man looks deadpanned yet has a shocked facial expression and his attire is not perfect, e.g. he has a loose strand of hair in his face.

Using inspirtation form Irving Penn, here is a photo i took:

I liked the way the photo was deadpanned, and so I asked the girl I was photographing to be dead panned. AS you can see, she is. However, she is slightly pouting. I think this makes the photo look very posed, not as much like Irvings. I also wanted to keep this photo in colour so that you can see her eyes more as they were very piercing.

Connecting Essay One

This is a photo taken by a photographer named Vivian Maier. Maier was a very big feminist and movie critic. She could see detail and knew what people liked and how to entice individuals.

I really like this photo as I feel like it shows her being in someone else life, even if she isn't welcomed, but she is still standing there strong. I like the way that message is given out, that you will not always be important to the people you are surrounded by, but doesn't mean you should let your feet cave in.

I used this photo as inspiration, Here is my photo:

I like the way this photo turned out, I think it can give the same message. The way the main focus is me, as it should be; everyone's top priority should be themselves, even if it sounds selfish. And those people in the background, walking along, ignoring my presence. That shouldn't effect me.

However, my image isn't as clear as I did not have the facilities to have a clear mirror outside.

Physical Experiments

The reason I put glitter on the headphones lead was to show that Music and reading can be someones escape. Glitter is commonly associated with fantasy like themes and parties, in which I used this association to show that music and books are a type of fantasy, whether it is yours or not.

I used scissors on this photo to scrape of some of the ink. The reason I did this was so that the scratches emphasises the broken road. IT highlights each crack even more, but also gimicks it. IT allows the photo to be less dark and quite quirky.

I used glitter according to the colours that you could see through the lenses, blue and black. The reason I did this was to show that summer is a time where everyone is happier, things shine and glow a little bit more.

This photo I highlighted the background in red glitter to make the perdon stand out more, I also tuk gems around the sides but the glitter hides that.

Lastly, I decided to put a gem flower on this photo to show the summer and friendly atmosphere. I also drew a swirl and a heart to make it gimmick looking.
