Pattern Work Diary

During the lesson, Thursday the 24th of September 2015, we were asked to take pictures that included the theme of pattern.
I learnt that pattern can be anywhere, whether it is in the tiled floors or the clouds. Pattern is in everything, anything we touch or see. I found that it was easy to spot patterns

Here is a photo i liked
I like this photo because the yellow stands out well against the green leaves. the pattern is the repetition of the petals and brown splurges in the flower. The petals are in the second and third of the photo, whilst the main subject slightly blanches out, when we look at the photo  what we see first are the bottom left petals and some green leaves. However i like this effect because the ury green makes the flower brighter.

I do not like this photo
I do not like this photo as much as i feel the olive fruit seems to be messy. though it is a pattern, it is not all that pleasing. Also the lightning and contrast are un-even and displeasing. I would have liked it if the olives formed a shape of some sort, making the eyes follow a line round, i know that it was a long shot but i tried and failed.

Progression

If i were to shoot Pattern again i would like to get something that is abstract, requires more focus from the viewer whilst has beautiful colours. I would also like to work on my variation of angles and focus. Here are some photos i would use as inspiration for next time.

Line Work Diary

During the lesson on Tuesdays the 8th of September 2015, we were assigned a task which entailed the job to represent images of the theme Line. There is line in everything we see but I found that it was harder to find creative lines.

Here is a photo i liked

I like this photo because it clearly shows line in various ways. The first would be the the pencils are in a 'line' whilst one pencil on its own also has curved lines. Also the shaven part has lines meeting from the plastic to the lead. I think the focus is good and the colours are bright. They stand out well against the brown wooden floors.

I did not like this photo

I tried to demonstrate lines being in things we least expect, how they can be curved and patterned. However i feel like the front circle should also be in focus. I would also like to erase the background noise to the right of the image.

Progression

If i were given the opportunity to shoot Line again i would have liked to have used human form, maybe experiment in colours a little more and be more abstract. I would also like to work on my focus and background noise. Here are some examples of inspiration.

Colour Work Diary

During the lesson, Thursday the 10th of September 2015; we were given the task to produce images that have an obvious relation to Colour.
Whilst doing so, in the time slot given (1 hour) I tried to be as creative as I could. All pictures taken had to be as the subject naturally was, if given the opportunity to take manipulated pictures I would have.

This is a photo i liked

I like this photo because of the blend/gradient of the white into brown. It clearly shows the healthier section of the flower to the weltered fading parts. I also like the fact that the green in the background is blurred but emphasizes the purity of the white flower. Further more i really like the angle it is taken. I like the fact that it is not straight on but allows you to have the side view instead.

Here is a photo i did not like
My aim for this photo was to have my shoe to main focus and to stand out against the baige background, however i found that the background was too noisy, taking away the focus. Also the shoe did not stand out very well, not as much as i would have liked anyway. I would have liked to gain a better focus and a clearer background.

progression

Next time i will experiment with more voluminous
colours and maybe colour splash. Here are some example photos:

Colour Straight Images

Add caption
This pictures captures a drooping white flower with its edges wintering. The orange brown contrasts well with the streak clean crisp white. The rough edges take away the perfect flower vibe showing the life of it dry slowly dissipating. Again, colour shows life; the browner it gets, the older and more bothered and stormed it becomes.

In this photo, there are multiple kids toys with bright vibrant colours that compliment each other well. the purpose of having bright colours is to draw attraction to children and keep them entertained.

This was taken in a bathroom with pink walls which completely and noticeably contrast the green and white of the plants leaves. the colours compliment each other well, giving of the theme of watermelon colours, smell, feeling.

The red flowers are deep and royal. the colour red often gives the impression of danger, blood or love. In this case, both red and flowers entail romance. The fact that none of the full flowers have wintered encompasses a feeling of wholeness and trust.

Pattern Straight Images

I like this photo because I like the way each stem is almost identical to one another yet different, It creates a sort of disoriented pattern.
I really like this photograph, the reason being because I like the way that the wet leaves look glossy, they are overlapping one another in a huge pile of mess.
I absolutely love this photo. I think it is because it looks dark and mysterious. The mold vines were growing down the side of  an abandoned club house. The vines all follow the same pattern/route.
similar to the picture above, this flower has the pattern of purple round the white petals. this flower hover shows royal deep colours and gives off a feeling of power and wealth.
This picture is quite simply a brick wall at first glance, but the patterns are edges are all different. they are different shapes sizes, straight lines or wonky lines. despite all the differences it still forms a pattern.

Texture Straight Images

This photo was taken of the top of a post box. the texture looks bumpy, uneven and rough. the photo actually moss but as the picture shows, it was not smooth. it was old and hard.

This image was taken of a girls eyebrows and eyes. the texture is the eyebrow which shows smoothness and the precise angle. the eyelashes show a messy flakey fluff kind of texture.
the bark is shown as breaking, rough and hard. it is exactly as seen.

This image shows the sleeve of a leather jacket. it looks bumpy yet smooth. The texture look of good value.

This is a photo of a jean jacket, the texture looks smooth and rough. it wouldn't be gliding nor abrupt. It looks of good value.

Texture Work Diary

During the lesson Tuesday the 22nd of September 2015, our task was set to capture images that hold the theme of Texture.
Whilst I was given an hour to take as many pictures as I could, I had to think about which textures make you think, what mood or feel they give and if they will really be eye catching.

I like this photo

I like this photo because you can clearly see the different texture lines and directions. It creates a comfort feel. The colour is bright and clear, whilst the focus is also clear with a slightly blurred background. I also like that there is more than one material on on jacket.

I did not like this photo

I did not like this photo because i feel like the angle was wrong yet it had to potential to be a very good representation of texture also pattern.

Progression

If i were to shoot Texture again i would like to get the texture on something more natural, like on a animal or something, I would also like to get to see the texture on human body.
Here are some exaples:

Pattern Image Bank

This photo is in my image bank for pattern because the black and white on the butterfly represent naturalistic beauty. There is nothing artificial about the photo and I feel like it speaks volumes of self beauty and the concept of not knowing ones beauty. A butterfly could never see its own wings, therefore never knowing its own pattern or beauty.

My second picture i chose is of ballerinas in a line with their hands crossed over each other to form a pattern. The reason this is in my image bank is because it gives off a sense of peace, team work and grace. Ballerina's are known to have exquisite posture and have to be graceful i9n every move they perform. this photo captures the beginnings f that posture but it is quite there yet which feels like i am getting a glimpse behind the scenes.

This picture is the pattern of a Zebra. the reason i used this as inspiration in my image bank is because it is a natural pattern that occurs. No one has manipulated the pattern, the naturally occurring pattern has been seen by thousands and then manipulated into clothing, tiles, everything it can, though there is something special about the actual Zebra wearing what is originally theirs.
This picture of the water hold sentimental value to me. not this exact picture, but lake pictures with a sunrise over will always be special in my mind. The pictures brings an aura of tranquility and safety to me. A photographer will think about what message they are trying to send out with a photo and to everyone it will be different.

I chose to use this picture because the simplicity but meaning behind these pictures are mind boggling. To one, you may just see a bunch of 'flowers' but to me, I see 9 wishing dandelions. those 9 dandelions will have peoples dreams, hopes, struggles engraved through hushed whispers; they will have been caught by others entailing another wish. eventually they'll have thousands of wishes; thousands of hopes and no one really knows if it works. no one will ever know but we believe. This picture to be shows strength, hope, belief and beauty.

Colour Image Bank

This first image is a liquid substance with different coloured dyed. the image has been taken whilst the colours are in the process of mixing. at the bottom of the glass we can see where the yellow, red, green and blue have already mixed whilst the top glass shows them separate. i found this picture to be eye catching and interesting in different way to interpret its meaning. To me, it can represnt different things, people, races, pretences all coming together, it shows that although we look different; we are all the same.
This photo is crayons stuck to blank card, and being melted so the wav will travel and solar down the page. this image has been re-created many of many times but i find that it must be something social for so many people to re-create it.
This picture gives of the party/occasion vibe. Whilst multi coloured lights can be seen as childish, i feel like this photo is quite mature but fun. It feels relaxing and homely.
This image is both creatively sultry but also childish. Now child and sultrily should never be used together but it actually works. the lollipop and sprinkles are something a child swoons for; it gets them excited. but the picture is sultry in a way that shows seductive games. The contrast of colours give a bubblegum pop theme which also ties into it being fun.
This picture shows an empty parking lot/street with street lamps. it could be possible that the colours have been edited in, but the colours take away from the gory\creepy theme of late night empty spaces. it gives a calming and adventerous feel.

Colour Contact sheet

Texture Image Bank

We chose this image because we found the different shades of colours in it a good representation of texture.

We chose this photo because it can be interpreted in many different ways and can show the element of texture very well.

We chose this image to represent texture because the black and white filter helps to show the different shadings and lines in the image therefore creating a good texture image.

We chose this photo because the scales of the crocidile show the texture to be rigid and hard. It creates a sense of power and strength alone.

We chose this image to represent texture because the light on the water helps to give a good effect.
