Depth Of Field TE Definintion

Switch the wheel to ‘A’ which is Aperture Priority Mode. For shallow depth of field and nice blurry backgrounds choose a large Aperture (the smaller the number the larger the aperture) - taking a few shots at different apertures and see how it affects the background of your shots. Shooting at the 55mm end of the lens is best. This means you can stand further back (making your subject more at ease and pushing your background even further away from your camera). You’ll probably still get nice blurry backgrounds if you use the fastest aperture available. The other good thing about zooms is that they enable you to really fill up your frame with your subject which can give it more prominence and your background less.

Depth of field is the measurement of how much the picture is in focus. A lens can only focus on one plane at a time.

Movement Work Diary

In todays lesson we were given the task to take pictures of Movement. Whilst I found it hard to find subjects that I could manipulate into moving and trying to find the right camera settings, I really enjoyed the lesson.
I feel like if I was given a wider range of movement pictures I could capture some better ones. However  I tried to be as creative as I possibly could.

Here is photo I liked.

I like this photo because I think it shows movement very well. I used the flashlight from my phone to create lines in a dark room, I thought I would try to do some numbers and the 6 came out quite well. I like the fact that you can see where the phone has been paused (endings where there is a north star effect) This number was easy to create however it is disappointing that the top is missing. The photo gves me a firework effect, feeling welcoming. Personally I find the photo quite aesthetically pleasing.

I do not like this photo
I do not like this photo as the main focus is not where it should be. The photo was supposed to show the movement of someone on a chair moving backwards. However the timings didn't work so the photo came out wrong. It looks like the camera wasn't steady instead of movement.

Progression

If I were given the opportunity to re-do this task, I think I would like to be more creative. Maybe getting something that drops and/or explodes like a water balloon. Or bowing a balloon up and letting it go. I would also like to show story movement. For example having a flower and moving it to the left, for every place movement a petal could disappear.
I think I need to practise on my focus and blurring backgrounds.

Here are some photos I would use for inspiration next time:

Movement Straight Images

I took this photo at a little park. It is a round a' bout, that has obviously been spun. I like the way you can see it is spinning round, and the colours are quite dull.

I also took this photo at the park, I like this one too because you can see where the swing was and then where it has been swung to, It is quite blurry but I like that is shows motion in that way.
The reason i like this picture is because you can see the main object has a darker, thicker appearance and the two either side are fade, bordering invisible. I didn't actually mean to take the picture but it turned out well.

Again I really like the number light theme. I think it looks creative and flows nicely. It has a firework look to it. The six was fairly easy to create, I however did have to attempt it two or three times.

Lastly, I like this photo because you can see someone walking in front, their movements have moved with the camera . The picture is all together out of focus but it looks like it belong like that.

Movement Definition

An act of moving

framing a photo of movement.

Movement Image Bank

I like this image because the movement is only on one object. The rest surrounding is still.

I like the fact that h background is moving past the car yet you ave a focused sky in the wing mirror. The whole theme is old fashioned looking yet modern.

I like the innocence ion this photo. It seems just like a teddy bear on a merry g round. Whilst looking at the picture it does make me go slightly dizzy however i think it os clever that the teddy is in full focus whilst the background has moved.

I like the form of this movement. Although harder to achieve I think it gives a good and different perspective of movement/story telling.

Finally, I really liked this picture because it looks os simple yet so beautiful and pleasing. It shows culture, happiness, but ale looks like it could be showing poverty\ malnutrition.

Camera Definition

ISO - International, standard organisation. It is about light sensitivity. The higher the number for darker spaces. Lower the number for day light.

Aperture is the size controls the levels of light that get into the camera. This helps the camera adjust to the brightness of the environment that the image is being taken in.

SLR - single lens reflex

Fstop - bigger number, smaller aperture.
